Three of us are friends in college who went to different area of businesses after we graduated from colleges. Nevertheless, we are united by one passion which is foods and drinks. We regularly went out trying different type of food, hosting BBQ, attending wine tasting class
, and experiencing coffee cupping class. Sure …… It took us several years to come out with an idea working in the area that we have the most “interest” and “good sources”, which is “coffee business”…….. You can easily guess how good we are in college to grasp the opportunity in such a loooong time………………
The hard lesson and the long journey began several years ago, each of us contributed capital and our time to start the coffee business. A partner worked full time while two of us worked part time. Our family owns coffee co-op and milling facility in Sumatra and we brought in the first container of Robusta coffee from Indonesia. We were under the assumption that we should be able to sell the coffee easily as long as it was inexpensive. It took a very short moment for us to realize that the demand in this type of coffee was not a lot. People in specialty coffee care about the quality and the cupping not the price of the coffee. It took us forever to finally sell all the coffee before we were able to bring the second container of good Sumatra Arabica coffee. During that time, we met and learned with many peoples in the coffee industry that shared their passion and knowledge to us. Honestly, we owed what we have accomplished to their willingness sharing their knowledge. It’s been several years and we are becoming good friends with our customers while still maintaining our business relationship.
Currently, all of us work full time for the company. We are importing container of coffees from around the world particularly from Indonesia. We have nice and excellent people work for us in the states and in Indonesia. Although, a big portion of our businesses are in container orders, we start to store our coffee in a few commercial warehouses in North America. We also have satellite offices in Jakarta and Medan to keep on finding a good cup of coffee. Our office in Indonesia is acting to arrange the logistic, to check the quality, and to find a new type of coffee. In addition, we are partnering with a few co-ops for better service, supply, and quality for our coffee.
Recently, we have just expanding our business to export heavy machinery and equipments to Indonesia. In addition, we are regularly coordinating corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs to improve coffee farmers livings especially in Indonesia. Please feel free to check our blog/news to follow our activities. We also welcome your direct contribution, participation and inputs to our CSR. We thank our customers that also indirectly contributing to improve the coffee farmers and their communities.
Our goal is to keep growing in this business, finding and bringing new coffee for our customers. We love the coffee, the business, and the people. We can tell by experience that coffee is a very unique business, it is a business that you can taste and enjoy it and primarily build a trust and friendship with your vendors and suppliers. We are looking forward to get to know you and becoming our friend …….
